Description
Aldolase is a protein which is called an enzyme that helps break down sugars to produce energy. This enzyme is most likely found in all cells. But,more significant concentrations are commonly found in muscle, brain, and liver tissues.
A test can be done to measure the amount of aldolase in your blood. Elevated aldolase in the body is usually a sign of muscle or liver damage.People with increased levels of aldolase are identified to have a myotonic muscle disease. Aldolase is also found in the cytoplasm and nucleus of cells.
Aldolase levels in the blood rise when a person has muscle damage. The aldolase blood test will be ordered to diagnose and monitor certain conditions related to skeletal muscle. It mostly has been replaced by other muscle enzyme tests, especially CK (creatine kinase).
Aldolase - Aids in the diagnosis of primary disease of skeletal muscle myocardial infarction and viral hepatitis.
