Overview

A comprehensive metabolic panel is a blood test that measures your sugar (glucose) level, electrolyte and fluid balance, kidney function, and liver function.Glucose is a type of sugar your body uses for energy. Electrolytes keep your body's fluids in balance. They also help keep your body working normally, including your heart rhythm, muscle contraction, and brain function. The kidneys help keep the right balance of water, salts, and minerals in the blood. They also filter out waste and other unneeded substances from the blood. The liver helps with digestion and produces some vitamins and other substances that the body needs. It also controls the amounts of glucose, protein, and fat in the blood and releases substances that keep your immune system healthy. The CMP gives your healthcare practitioner important information about the current status of your body's metabolism (hence the name metabolic panel). The CMP provides information on your blood sugar (glucose) levels, the balance of electrolytes and fluid as well as the health of your kidneys and liver. Abnormal results, and especially combinations of abnormal results, can indicate a problem that needs to be addressed and may require additional testing.

Proteins

Blood proteins are filtered out by tight junctions between the epithelial cells that constitute the lining of the choroid plexus.Blood proteins, also termed plasma proteins, are proteins present in blood plasma. They serve many different functions, including transport of lipids, hormones, vitamins and minerals in activity and functioning of the immune system. Other blood proteins act as enzymes, complement components, protease inhibitors or kinin precursors.Blood proteins such as serum albumin, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT) have been conjugated to Hb to form macromolecules, which provide not only larger MW to prolong the circulation but also, the function of other key proteins in the blood. The manufacturing process of cross-linked Hb and poly-Hb is relatively simple, but the products are not uniform. The concern of inducing an immune response is always present with these products. A solid-phase adsorption method was proposed to prepare well-defined bovine serum albumin (BSA)–bovine Hb conjugate. After adsorption by the solid phase, BSA molecules were allowed to react with GDA.

Electrolytes

Electrolytes are salts and minerals, such as sodium, potassium, chloride and bicarbonate, which are found in the blood. They can conduct electrical impulses in the body. The test is sometimes carried out during a routine physical examination, or it may be used as part of a more comprehensive set of tests. Electrolytes help move nutrients into the body's cells and help remove wastes out of the cells. They help maintain a healthy water balance and help stabilize the body's acid-base (pH) level. An electrolyte test can help determine whether there's an electrolyte imbalance in the body.Electrolyte level may be checked if you're prescribed certain medications, such as diuretics or angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, which are often used to treat high blood pressure. Are you looking for "where can i get blood work done?".
