Description
Glucose, Gestational Screen (50g), 140 Cutoff - A value of 140 mg/dL or greater indicates the need for a full diagnostic, gestational glucose tolerance performed in the fasting state to determine if the patient has gestational diabetes.
The glucose tolerance test is a useful blood test in testing for diabetes risk and resistance to insulin in the body.
The oral glucose tolerance test includes drinking a sweetened glucose liquid which contains 50g of glucose. The body absorbs this glucose fastly , which cause blood glucose levels to rise within 30 to 60 minutes. A blood sample will be taken from a vein in your arm about 60 minutes after drinking the solution. The blood test measures how the glucose solution was metabolized by the body.
A blood glucose level of 140mg/dL or higher will identify 80% of women with gestational diabetes.
