Description
Total protein is useful in evaluating patients for nutritional status, liver disease, protein-losing renal and gastrointestinal diseases, and many other medical conditions. Elevated concentrations may be observed in patients with monoclonal gammopathies, autoimmune hepatitis, inflammation, and other medical conditions. ‘Protein, Total, Serum’ test is used to help monitor and diagnose multiple myeloma or any condition where protein production is affected.
A principal use of this test is in the detection of monoclonal gammopathies. These are usually found in association with hemic neoplasms, especially multiple myeloma. They also occur in other benign and malignant conditions.
If you have Multiple myeloma work-up, chronic liver disease, multiple sclerosis, protein deficiency diagnosis, we recommend that you seriously consider a Protein, Total, Serum test.
